Wet behind the ears

“...In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”. 1 Peter 1:3b
To say someone is wet behind the ears is to say they’re inexperienced, immature, or young. This alludes to farm animals that have recently been born because the last part to dry after birth is usually behind the ears.
I remember the first time I saw a calf being born, it was scary and majestic at the same time. The calf had gotten stuck in the birth canal so Daddy had to pull it out with the tractor. Miraculously both survived and the cow instinctively began to lick the calf, cleaning the amniotic fluid from its fur.
The day we received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, God began a new life in us.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” Christ came to restore the broken relationship between God and man and through this faith we can be united in Christ, fulfilling God's purposes in creation. He wants us all to choose and glorify Him.
Just as new mommas sooth and comfort their newborn babies, God nurtures the new believer. He has instilled in us a hunger to feed on his word and digest what we’re ready to receive. Hebrews 5:11-14 explains that as new converts, we start out on milk, just as an infant does but as our faith grows we progress to solid food because we’re no longer wet behind the ears. We develop a deeper understanding of who God is. As we progress in our spiritual life, we develop discernment and sound judgment because we test what we hear from the world so we won’t slip back into our old habits.
I didn’t accept Jesus into my life until I was 23 and there were a lot of scriptures that I didn’t understand. Let’s face it, I still find some scripture difficult to understand but I’m constantly learning when I dig into His Word. Through the power of the Holy Spirit that resides in us, we’re able to distinguish good from evil and develop into a mature Christian.
