“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes
to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

I am the way is one of seven declaration statements Jesus self-proclaimed impressing He was the only way to God the Father.
I was driving the other night at twilight and in the distance, I could see the shadow of an oncoming car with no lights. For their own safety, I flashed my lights to remind them to turn their headlights on, but they never responded.
It reminded me of myself before Jesus came into my life; I was driving in the dark. Retrospectively, I can see how others attempted to show me the way but I was so self-involved in my life, I relied on the light from others to guide my way. Sure I knew who God was but until I surrendered my life to Him, I wasn’t in a relationship with Jesus and I certainly couldn’t illuminate His light.
Jesus reminds us that He is the great comforter and He reveals His compassion with the explanation responding to Thomas’ question in John 14:5, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Thomas, like the others is confused about what Jesus is saying so He simply lays it all out to say “I am THE way”. He’s reminding them there aren’t other options, He is the only way.
This is the central belief of Christianity, Jesus is the only path to our Heavenly Father. Jesus goes on to say in verse 7 that if you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. This is signifying the intimate connection Jesus has with God the Father. He is our mediator connecting humanity with God. So now as believers, it’s our responsibility to illuminate the light of Jesus to others so they too will no longer be in the dark. The truth is there is only way to eternal life, through the blood of Jesus given freely to all who believe.
