The early bird gets the worm

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35

The early bird gets the worm is an old English proverbial expression meaning the earlier you get up, the better chance you have to take advantage of others who don’t. Seize the day.

I’m an early riser and most mornings I’m up before the birds even start singing. Daddy always said if you slept late, you were burning daylight. Birds bring us comfort because they remind us everything’s right with the world but a really odd phenomenon happens before a natural disaster. The birds flee the region. God has equipped them with a sixth sense so they are aware of the barometric pressure causing them to vacate the area to protect them from calamities. After a storm has passed it’s quite noticeable there are no chirping birds.

I love the stillness of the early morning where the only sounds are the clocks ticking away the seconds. Jesus also liked the solitude of the mornings because this is the time He spent in prayer. I find it so interesting Jesus prayed. He was God in person yet He still had to replenish His soul by communing with His Heavenly Father. The fact that Jesus woke while it was still dark really spoke to me. If Jesus needed to spend time in prayer, then how much more do we need to. Starting each day in prayer, sets the tone for the day and is a beautiful reminder of all we’re blessed with.

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
