Take a breather

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Luke 5:16

Take a breather means to take a short break to have some time for yourself to recover, rejuvenate, or refocus from what you’re doing in order to find rest.

We all need a break at times, especially when we feel overwhelmed. We all have different ideas of what that means but I remember years ago I had a friend who received word that her mother was taking a sabbatical from her children for the next year. I can’t imagine not hearing from my kids for a week, much less a whole year.

We all need rest, and even Jesus took a hiatus during His ministry to go away by Himself and spend time in prayer. I find it interesting that even Jesus, who was God Himself, needed to take a break from the busyness of healing and communicating with the crowds to replenish His spirit. If God Himself needs to find refuge through prayer, then how much more do we need to pray.

I know for me personally, if I don’t spend time reading my Bible and praying, I don’t reflect God’s grace. He is the source of the goodness in me through supplication and application. We can learn so much about Jesus from reading the Scriptures because He’s the living example of who we’re aspired to become.

So, when we become weary and overburdened, we need to go to the Lord in prayer. Prayer is powerful and can deliver us through whatever we are dealing with. God has provided us with the power of prayer so we may receive endurance, perseverance and rest.

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
