Smooth as glass

“Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth.” Luke 3:5

Smooth as glass means a surface is exceptionally smooth and this is often in reference to a body of water that is so motionless and tranquil a reflection can be seen just like in glass.

I think it’s so neat that glass is created by bringing sand to an extreme temperature so I began to research how this process was discovered. According to historyofglass.com, one theory is that thousands of years ago a merchant ship moored off a beach near Syria used nitrum to prop up their pots for cooking and when it fused with the sand a translucent liquid began to flow from the fire. Whether this is true or not I’m not sure but it makes for a good story.

Each one of us has a story attached to us, a story of how we came to know the Lord and the life experiences we have gone through. Proverbs 27:19 says, “As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.” The condition of our heart is reflected in our character because whatever we fill up with overflows from us.

As believers we are called to live a life that reflects our relationship with our Heavenly Father. Just as heat can turn sand into glass, the Lord has the power to turn us into the person He has called us to be. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Jesus was the pure reflection of God throughout His entire ministry and He never wavered. As we grow in our relationship with the Lord we will reflect more and more godly characteristics. Colossians 3:10 says, “and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” As long as we are on this earth, life will never be as smooth as glass but with the aid of the Holy Spirit we will reflect His goodness no matter how choppy the waters get.

About Me

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
