Selling like hot cakes

“Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding.”

Proverbs 23:23

Selling like hotcakes is to have a product which is a commercial success, selling as quickly as it’s produced. This comes from hot pancakes being sold at church bazaars or fairs, being sold before they could get cold.

We don’t have to look too hard to find someone pushing “the next best thing” because they’ve invented a product to make our lives easier. There’s even television shows to introduce their idea to prospective investors with dreams of getting rich quick. For anyone who has ever created anything to sell, we want others to want it. I know I’m thrilled and humbled from the reception I’ve received from my book.

There’s not much mention of business women in the Bible, however in Acts 16:13-15, Paul encounters a woman dealing purple cloth. It’s assumed she’s financially stable because fabric the color of purple was associated with wealth or royalty. As Paul spoke, the Lord opened Lydia’s heart to receive his message and was baptized giving her something money couldn’t buy.

We’re all consumers inundated with commercials filled with products which we “must have”. But the older I’ve gotten, the more I realize the less I need because things of importance we cannot buy. Proverbs 23:23 talks about wisdom and buying the truth. I think what the verse is emphasizing is for us to harbor God’s truth in our hearts so we’ll attain biblical discipline and understanding. God’s Word is a commodity we all need.

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
