Like mother, like daughter

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12

Like mother, like daughter is an old proverbial expression which means daughters resemble their mothers, in looks and/or actions.

Today is the day we celebrate mother’s. This isn’t just another day for the flower and card companies to generate more income, but rather a day we honor the woman who has given us life. If there’s one thing we all have in common, it is we all have had a mother. Unfortunately for some, we don’t get to choose our mothers but we were all formed inside her womb and without her, we would not exist.

It’s not about the gift we receive one day a year, it’s about the commandment we follow the entire year. Honor our mother. For most of us, our mother’s are the fabric of who we grow up to be. Their personality traits are ingrained in us so we owe them a debt of gratitude for the women we’ve grown to be.

Proverbs 31 is chock-full of character traits a godly mother should exhibit. Verse 25, “She is clothed with strength and dignity;”, verse 26, “she speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue,”, verse 27, “She watches over the affairs of her household … ”, and verse 28, “Her children arise and call her blessed;”.

I know from my vantage point, there’s so much of my mother in me and I see myself in my girls so the saying, “like mother, like daughter” rings true. Happy Mother’s Day to all mother’s, to the mother/father’s out there, and to the influencial women in our lives who have made a positive impression on us to help form us into godly women.

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
