Birds of a feather flock together

“I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.” Psalm 50:11

The idiom birds of a feather flock together means people of similar personalities and interests tend to be drawn to one another. This is an old proverbial saying coming from the observation that birds of the same species in fact fly in flocks to form sinuous shapes.

My husband and I have recently vacationed with 2 other couples at the beach for a week. We have laughed and played more games in one week than you can imagine. I have known these women for over 45 years and they’ve seen me at my best and my worst. Through the years we have created a bond that seems to only grow stronger because they truly are the sisters I never had.

I think it’s interesting how we migrate to people who have the same interests as us. Although no two humans are created the same, there are individuals who we are just more comfortable being around because there is a connection that can’t be broken. I believe God places special people in our path to encourage, love, lift us up in prayer, and support us.

Philippians 2:2 says, “then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.” This verse emphasizes the importance for us as believers to have the same attitude as Christ and in doing so a bond is formed. Just as Jesus loves us, we are to love the ones He has placed in our lives.

I consider myself blessed beyond measure to have friends that I can count on through “thick and thin”, friends who know me inside and out and love me just the same. We are all flawed but when our hearts are focused on loving the Lord with all our hearts we don’t see the blemishes in one another, we only see Christ.

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
