“I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.” Mark 11:23

BEYOND A SHADOW OF DOUBT
Simply put, beyond a shadow of doubt means whatever you are speaking about, you’re certain it’s the absolute truth.
I love it when I’m right, whether it’s the direction we should go or the answer to the question that was asked. I drive my husband crazy when I question his answer that’s not the same as mine because I always want to know the correct answer. I’m obviously still a work in progress.
Thomas, one of the twelve disciples, also had a hard time believing everything he was told. He wasn’t present when the others encountered Jesus after his resurrection, so they went to Thomas in John 20:25, “So the other disciples told him, 'We have seen the Lord!' But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.” That’s where we get the phrase “doubting Thomas”.
Thomas was skeptical to believe Jesus was alive until he saw him first hand. I’m sure you could have heard a pin drop in the room when Jesus entered through the closed door a week later. As Jesus spoke directly to Thomas, he said, “...Stop doubting and believe.”
John 20:27b.
Isn’t that what we’re asked to do today…..just believe. Believe in the One who came to save us from the clutches of evil. We’re to have faith even through the tough times because we know of all the great things the Lord has done for us.
We are reminded in James 1:6 to keep our faith, “But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” I know beyond a shadow of doubt who Jesus is and that I’ve been saved. Not by anything spectacular I’ve done, but by His grace.
