“A friend loves at all times,” Proverbs 17:17a

A fair weather friend is someone who doesn’t stick around during the difficult times in your life.
This is a metaphor comparing mild weather to a friend who abandons you when life gets stormy.
Finding a true friend who knows you inside and loves you just the same is far and few between. A friend that no matter what time of the day it is, you know you can call them and they’ll be there for you. I’m blessed to say I have a few friends I know I can count on, regardless of what the need is.
We were designed to crave friendships, God just made us that way. Someone we can just pour our hearts out to and share our truth. I married my best friend but there’s just something special about having a girlfriend you can confide in and pray with. Someone who knows your faults and still accepts you.
Jesus modeled what a true friend is. He genuinely cared for others, especially His disciples. He enjoyed their fellowship, confided in them, calmed their fears, encouraged and prayed for them. John 15:13 says, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” This is love put into action.
When we find true friendships, we can’t take them for granted. We need to nurture and cultivate a relationship so it will continue to grow and flourish. A true friend checks in on each other because we’re not just fair weather friends but friends for life.
