“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Matthew 6:27

A bundle of nerves describes someone who is extremely anxious or nervous especially regarding an upcoming event. This idiom is in reference to the bundles of cordlike neuron fibers in our brain which stimulate us to feel and move throughout our body.
Our youngest daughter gets married in four days. If you ask her if she’s nervous, she of course says no, which I believe. Anxious is the more appropriate word because she, just like every bride, wants all the finite details which have been planned out to the tee for the big day to go off without a hitch.
I’m just as bad. I have no less than four running lists of things I need to buy, bring, make, or hem. One by one I check something off only to add something else to another list. Night is the worst. I go to sleep fine but if I wake up during the night, my mind begins to swirl out of control about things I need to make sure have been taken care of and to add them to the “list”.
When we worry and stress about things out of our control, we’re allowing Satan’s schemes to rob us of our joy. When we become anxious, we’re revealing our lack of faith in the One who loves, protects and cares for us. We have to surrender our worries and put our trust in the Lord so we can have peace. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
So, as the wedding day approaches everything will fall into place so there’s no point in being a bundle of nerves about anything. At the end of the day, there’s going to be a wedding whether the flowers on the cake are straight or not. All that matters is there are two people who love the Lord committing their lives to love, honor and respect one another in front of their friends and family.
