Peace and quiet

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way.
The Lord be with all of you.”
2 Thessalonians 3:16

Peace and quiet is an old proverbial phrase relating to longing for a space of tranquility, calm, and freedom from interruptions.
Our day is filled with disturbances. So often, I start out to accomplish one thing and end up finishing something else I started earlier because my train of thought was disrupted, especially during this busy holiday season.
Christmas is a wonderful time of the year but we have to be mindful of why we celebrate and not get caught up in all the commercialism thrown at us at every turn. The noise surrounding us drowns out the simple reason of this season; the birth of the greatest gift ever given, Jesus.
Before Jesus ever came onto the scene, prophecies of the Messiah’s arrival were made. Isaiah 9:6 says, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” The definition of a prince is a son of a monarch, a royal ruler. Jesus came to reign over us, bringing peace to all who believe. Jesus gives us peace which is embedded in our hearts that cannot be purchased but can only be received when we accept the invitation.
So this Christmas season, carve out moments of peace and quiet to reflect on this precious gift from God. And just as a child count down the days in anticipating Christmas morning, we too anticipate the arrival of Jesus coming again one day.
