One track mind

“Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:2

One-track mind means you’re not broad minded, you have a very narrow focus which can lead to an obsession. This idiom actually alludes to a train which only goes one way on the track.

We went camping with our grandson and at the campground they had set up this replication of gold mining. From the time we got there, all he could talk about was panning for treasures. He had become so obsessed about doing this activity he was having a hard time enjoying himself doing other things.

Finally we set out to go panning for what the merchant had so conveniently put into this bag of dirt. I must admit, I was very skeptical. I figured they would throw in a fossil or two and maybe a shark's tooth to make themselves look good but to my amazement, he actually came away with some actual fossils and genuine shark teeth.

Jesus was also obsessed because once He set out on His mission, He also had a one track mind. He knew the purpose the Father had for Him on this earth and nothing could deter Him from the plan. He never deviated or became distracted by His surroundings because He had come for the greater good of all mankind.

Just like our grandson sifted through all that soil to find and save the buried treasures, Jesus plucks us out of our sinful nature and saves us from the world. Once we believe, we are now His treasure and have been placed into His loving arms.

Our grandson had faith there were going to be treasures as he dug and we’re to have the same childlike faith towards Jesus. Matthew 18:3, “And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

About Me

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
