Let freedom ring

“I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.” Psalm 119:45

Let freedom ring is a metaphorical phrase comparing the clanging of a bell to exercising our freedom clearly. This is the idyllic American way to pursue life, liberty, and happiness so that all may flourish.
Somehow, I think we have gotten way off track in this country. Everyone is so worried about their rights getting trampled on, we have forgotten about having compassion on others. Just because we have the right to do something does not mean it’s the right thing to do.
Martin Luther King Jr. was known for his compassion and really strived to make a positive impact on others. I was only 2 when he made his famous “I have a dream” speech but I recently reread it and it’s powerful. He had a beautiful dream for this country, that all men would be created equal regardless of their economic background or the color of their skin.
As I read what Dr. King said 58 years ago, I couldn’t help but see the similarity with him and Jesus. When Jesus preached, He too talked about injustices, wrong doings, and about the animosity of people towards one another. Not much has changed over the past centuries, because we still need Jesus in our hearts.
Jesus paid the ultimate price and freed us from the bondage of sin, all we have to do is accept Him as our Lord and Savior and our hearts change. We no longer see someone from a different political party, or a different race, we see a brother or sister in Christ. We are to love unconditionally and serve others because as believers, we are the hands and feet of Jesus.
We are so blessed because we have the freedom to worship and pray to our Heavenly Father without fear of persecution. Our forefathers based our constitution on biblical principles so it’s important to stand up for what is right but in a loving way, just as Jesus. We all need to try harder to be united because we live in “One Nation Under God”, where freedom rings and we should never take that for granted.
