Growing like a weed

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18

Usually when someone says you’re growing like a weed, they’re talking to a child about how fast they’re growing. Grandma said this all the time to her grandbabies.
I love to garden, honestly because mama loved to play in the dirt too. I enjoy planting flowers, especially ones that attract butterflies and bees. Regardless of what I plant, the weeds always seem to grow faster.
Our lives are much like a garden. The seeds we plant grow in our heart. When we focus on biblical truths, we produce the fruit of the Spirit, and cultivate a relationship with Jesus. However, if we harbor anger, resentment, envy, or other negative characteristics, they keep us from growing toward spiritual maturity.
When we become Christians, we begin a relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit empowers us to grow in our faith. We are called to grow in spiritual wisdom and understanding so we can reflect the love of God to those around us.
In Colossians 1:9, Paul is “... asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” He is making sure the people understand the difference between knowing Biblical facts and having Biblical knowledge, wisdom and understanding resulting in a life worthy of the Lord. The difference is applying what we learn and implementing it in our life. If we’re not growing in our walk with the Lord, we are stagnant.
The Lord desires our faith to grow like a weed when we become believers. “And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,”. Colossians 1:10
