Between a rock and a hard place

“He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:2

When you find yourself between a rock and a hard place you’re facing two equally difficult situations, either choice could be disastrous. Some suggest this can be traced all the way back to Greek mythology.

When I spent the night with Grandma, we would always go to church on Sunday. She went to a small community Baptist church and I remember some of the great hymns that were sung there. One of my favorites was “ The Solid Rock” by Edward Mote. The refrain was,

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

I just love how simplistic the words are but yet so profound. When we put our trust in the Lord we can stand up against anything the world throws at us.

The important thing is to go to the Lord with the problems we face immediately rather than trying to figure things out and then bring them to him when it doesn’t work out. I find myself giving my burdens to God then taking them back.

Psalm 71:3 says, “Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go; give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.” By definition a fortress is a fortified place, something permanent, a stronghold. It’s such a comfort to know that no matter what I’m up against, God is my protector, refuge and foundation.

So the next time we find ourselves between a rock and a hard place, we must remember to trust God first. We need to always put our faith and hope in the one true Rock…..Jesus. Nothing is too big or too complicated for him to conquer. Psalm 18:2 says, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.”

About Me

Hi, my name is Kim Johnson.  I am a Wife, Mom, Sister, Friend, and Grandmother.  I have lived in Virginia for the past 25 years but my roots are from North Carolina where I grew up hearing idioms.  My children said I should write these things down so I took it to a deeper level and connected them to scripture to show how God has continually revealed himself in my life.

You may be wondering where "Blooming With Jesus"  came from. My inspiration came from my grandma who loved me unconditionally and spoke these idioms to me throughout my life. Through these I have been able to blossom in my faith and grow closer to God each day. My hope is as you read these you too will be able to grow in your faith.
